Are Things Getting Even Stranger?

I’ve reached a point where I realize the administration and its media heralds’ approach to the Gaza War has reached the same state of incoherence as their actions in Afghanistan and Ukraine. After a promising start, the former ended in catastrophe, and the latter is headed in the same direction.

They demand Israel institute a civilian Gazan government before the war is over. Imagine attempting this approach in Nazi Germany while a good part of the Wehrmacht is still intact. The idea of Mahmoud Abbas stepping in to rule the strip is laughable. The Gazans chased his Fatah-ruled Palestinian Authority out shortly after the Israelis left Gaza in 2005.

Producing a reformed, newly constituted Palestinian Authority, even if possible, would take considerable time. Who would rule until then? A coalition of Arab states? How long would that take?

Even if you put some government in place, how would it enforce its rules? Hamas still has an estimated ten to twenty thousand heavily armed fighters. Where are the police or troops going to come from to stop Hamas from continuing to attack Israel or take over the new government?

The U.S. Army recommends 20-25 counterinsurgents to every 1,000 residents. The Gaza population of around 2 million requires 40,000 troops to suppress an armed insurrection. Exactly where are these troops coming from to duke it out with Hamas? Israel isn’t about to accept a Palestinian force of that size. The vast majority of Palestinians support Hamas’s October 7 attack. Such a force might join forces with Hamas and attack Israel.

Has anyone heard from any Arab nations volunteering substantial military? Even if they did, would they take on a heavily armed opponent?

Israel is supposed to sit back while Hamas gets stronger while waiting for a government and forces that are most likely ineffective if they ever appear.

Civilian welfare is the reason put forth for Israel to refrain from a final Rafah campaign. Can anybody point to any other war where the enemy population is the responsibility of the counterattacker? While no one knows the civilian casualty figures or their makeup, The Hama-originated figures in this war compare favorably with past conflicts. Why are the Israelis held to a higher standard?

Will the remaining hostages be released, or will Hamas insist on a high price in addition to a ceasefire?

We and the Israelis have every right to demand answers before giving up finishing off Hamas’ last battalions in Rafah. The Biden administration, CNN, the Washinton Post’s Fared Zakaria, Israeli War cabinet member Benny Gantz, and others making cart before the horse governing proposals must show how they can work. If they can’t, we’ll know where they stand on Israel’s survival. Precisely, what is their agenda?

Before my head explodes, it may be time to change the subject. With the present New York court case and the two debates scheduled, I think it’s time to revisit my long-held view that once they were sure Trump had secured the Republican nomination, replacing Biden was only a matter of time. I still feel it will be at the Democratic Convention.

Drowning Trump in a mass of litigation made him sympathetic to Republican voters while focusing all the attention in his direction. These actions sucked all the air out of the other candidates. The plan worked to perfection. Only Nikki Haley made it to Super Tuesday. She was polling substantially better than Biden. The Democrats got the weakest opposition candidate.

What I don’t understand is that with all the other cases against Trump likely pushed past the election, the Democrats are proceeding with the world’s worst case in New York. This case is so bad that it rallied not only Republicans but many fair-minded swing voters to Trump’s defense. Once he won the nomination, the Democrats should’ve deep-sixed this abomination. Given the multitude of weaknesses, it should’ve been easy.

Instead, it has riveted media attention on Trump. On court days, Trump addressed the mass media at least twice a day about the unfairness of the case. A Suffolk University poll shows that more people think the trial is unfair than fair. This reaction is the last thing The Democrats should want. If moderates and never-Trumpers see this as a show trial, it could tip the election his way.

As readers know, I am more of a Nikki Haley fan, but even I think the New York court is abusing the ex-president. This outcome can’t be what the Democrats desire. Just as essential, can’t they visualize a Democratic candidate mired in a future bogus case in West Virginia?

When the prosecution let Stormy Daniels go far and wide in her testimony, it ran afoul of the recent reversal in the Weinstein Case. By bringing in extraneous prejudicial evidence, the lower court in that case was in error. The Judge in the present Trump case should’ve called a mistrial. By putting the mistake on the prosecution, the Judge dodges the blame. The case goes away, maybe forever.

Rather than gaining sympathy in court, Trump will campaign only in front of his Maga fans. He may remind people why more than half of Americans voted against him. This result is much better than continuing the case. If he is convicted, many swing voters will see it as unfair. An acquittal or even a hung jury will be proof of a bogus case. Either way, Trump wins.

Until this trial started, the Democrats were right on schedule watching Trump punch himself out going after old Joe, only to find out after the August convention that he was up against a younger, more popular candidate, maybe  Michelle Obama. While more people, such as Bill MaherEzra Klein, and others, are now agreeing with me on an August switcheroo, the Democrats, with this trial, now have to dump Biden just to survive.

Things get stranger by the day, so I had to get some of this off my chest.
