The Democratic Ticket is now complete with the naming of Senator Kamala Harris as their Vice Presidential candidate. A large part of the press is looking forward to a Republican general election rout . Maybe it will work out that way. After all, we’re in a pandemic t caused depression. Fair or not, you can’t blame voters for lashing out and demanding change. Yet, the Democratic Convention next week may mark that party’s high point. The press and the Democrats might be fooled by their echo chamber. Just because they believe and promote something, doesn’t automatically make it accurate, Truth has a funny way of sneaking out.

Take the almost across the board press support of the idea Harris is moderate. Her most progressive in the Senate Senate voting record says the opposite. She outdistanced the likes of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. If elected, she would be a heartbeat of a 78yr old away from the presidency. Biden doesn’t even have to die in office, just be unable to continue. Joe Biden’s announced plan is already far to the left. He has said he’ll be the most progressive President ever. Harris, if possible, would be even more so.

Up till the Coronavirus struck the US, the economy was firing on all cylinders. Presidents generally get re-elected in good times. With virtually everyone doing well, they don’t rock the boat mentality takes over. Now, with double-digit unemployment, the President is on the defensive. He’s the boss, and the buck stops with him. The whole world is suffering in some way from COVID 19. A few countries did better than others, but everyone is affected.

Trump was ill-served by the permanent bureaucracy. The CDC and the FDA initially handled testing for the virus in the worst possible way. We have never caught up. First, the same bureaucrats, pooh-poohed mask-wearing, only to do a one-eighty later on. To date, we have never provided the help needed to protect the most vulnerable. Far too many elderly and those with underlying conditions are still dying. These bureaucratic failures would’ve hobbled our response no matter who was President. Never the less, it happened on his watch.

.All this is known and baked in. The real question is, where do we go from here? We are in a national discourse over how to open up after the crushing lock-downs. Nowhere is this more evident in the battle over school openings. The administration is firmly in the open ASAP. Camp. Without the schools operating, a sizable part of the labor force can’t return to work. The economy will stay hamstrung.

Generally, Democrats echoing their main supports, the teacher’s unions, are resisting children going back to school. If the epidemic stays at a high level or gets worse, this is a permissible, if not rational, position. But if it has topped out and headed down, this will be seen as self-serving. There is no question young kids need to be in school.,especially disadvantaged youngsters. Recent stats show a downward trend in new cases. The more this continues, the less tenable the Democrat’s position becomes. The facts are squarely favoring kids in school now. It will only be more apparent each day going forward. Kids need to be in school so their parents can go back to work.

Many private and where possible, charter schools are opening. This will provide a contrast in approach. School failures could come into Focus. .Disadvantaged areas already suffer from poor schools. Remote learning works less well for these students. The result is putting kids already behind at an even more significant advantage. In the last Florida Governor’s election, the Republicans made education an issue and cut into the minority vote. This could be a big opening for Trump. The positions of the teacher’s unions will reflect poorly on their party of choice. Trump will be sure to hammer the Democrats mercilessly on the harm done to kids. Minority kids especially need to be in school, and the Democrats let them down.

Adding Dr. Scott Atlas from Stanford’s Hoover Institution to the administration’s Coronavirus Team is a big plus. Atlas has been right on the data from the start and isn’t tainted by the earlier bureaucratic failures. Forceful and data-driven, he can give a better medical perspective to getting kids back to school and people back to work. Outsiders should’ve been brought in from the beginning, but better late than never. Atlas can only help Trump get across his re-opening strategy.

The initial response George Floyd’s death was widespread sympathy. Peaceful demonstrations for police reform found a receptive audience. Unfortunately, those demonstrating weren’t always peaceful. Organizers forgot the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. They maintained peaceful demonstrations that appeal to the populace’s better nature, gaining support. Riots and destruction will cause you to lose it.

The press has leaned over backward to portray the majority of demonstrators as peaceful. It seems if a thousand people are marching and 800 are calm, the media will call it a peaceful demonstration with some incidents. But what if he other 200 looted and burned blocks of stores? Injuries to the police and civilians ensued. Some are killed. Which is the real headline? A peaceful demonstration or widespread damage and injury?

The looting of the “Miracle Mile” in Chicago and Scottsdale Fashion Square in Arizona didn’t even pretend to be peaceful protests. They were out and out theft. To maintain the moral high ground, Gandhi and King knew they had to keep their demonstrations calm even in the face of great provocation. King never marched after dark for this reason. With nightly violence, George Floyd’s memory is fading. It’s replaced with scenes of mindless destruction. With Democrat’s in charge almost everywhere these riots occur, they have a lot to answer for. Don’t think this won’t increasingly factor into the election.

It seems to be dawning on many in the minority communities; they pay the price. Lawlessness is destroying their neighborhoods. Their children are dying. Who cares about them? Thousands of minority youngsters are on the waiting lists of good charter schools. Now those parents are faced with schools that are not only bad but not even open. Distance learning for their kids has been a bad joke. Trump has to look better to some. He has already delivered Justice Reform. Law and order with access to better schools will appeal to some. It did in Florida. A swing of three to five percentage points in minority areas could make things really difficult for the Democrats.

If the Coronavirus continues to recede, the emphasis on the recovery will grow. Even Keynesian economists think the idea of raising taxes at the beginnings of recovery is ridiculous. Yet this is what Biden proposes. Add even greater regulation, and we have the Obama-Biden slow-mo recovery formula repeated. People will compare this plan to the memory of the pre-Coronavirus Trump economy. They might not like the President, but they want and need a more robust economy. Add the fact, Biden in his previous Presidential runs was underwhelming. At 77, he’s even less appealing. On November 4, the Democrats may again be stunned. Maybe they’ll wonder why they didn’t find a way to run inspiring Michele Obama rather than Slow Joe.
