The ’24 election is likely to be seminal, and not in a good way, not only because of changes in the future but with further increases in alarming trends already in place. Instead of a sudden turn to a less free society, it will give further impetus to what is already in motion.
For instance, the Department of Justice is already politicized and weaponized against those standing in the way of an imperial government. In 2016, Donald Trump, a political outsider, was elected president. Immediately he was assigned a special counsel embroiling his administration in a bogus investigation for years.
If this wasn’t enough harm, when the 2020 race was at its height, damming information on Trump’s opponent showed up in Hunter Biden’s laptop. The Justice Department’s FBI had possession and authenticated the computer. Yet, it remained silent when Joe Biden and his allies claimed it was Russian disinformation. This DOJ deception might account for Trump’s narrow loss.
Instead of telling the truth when the New York Post broke the story, the FBI pressured media platforms to suppress the account. If this wasn’t election interference, what is?
Suppressing information opposing the preferred narrative wasn’t restricted to this one instance; it was a Covid feature. Media platforms quashed truthful details on the pandemic’s origins and better policy positions with implied government pressure on their businesses. Laid out when Elon Musk set free the “Twitter Files,” government entities used private companies to do what it prohibited from doing itself.
Add directing huge sums to favored constituent groups such as “Green Industries” and those with student loans. This industrial policy lets the Government rather than the market pick winners and losers. History shows governments have a record of misallocating resources, leading to corruption and economic decline. Sadly, the trillions ultimately spent on this “Green New Deal” won’t make a meaningful difference while starving defense and the productive economy.
Illustrating corruption in Government is the case of a President’s son failing to pay taxes on millions of dollars, and his Father’s justice Department offers a sweetheart deal with no felony or jail time. Has anyone else ever received a similar deal? A two-tier justice system.
Parents today face a failing public education system, unable to keep up with the rest of the world. Instead of reforms giving more choices and better results, many public schools are busy teaching sex to first graders and bogus history while downplaying excellence. When parents object, the Biden DOJ investigates them. Parents butt out. Government and the teacher’s unions know best.
To be sure, the courts have blocked some of the worst administration moves, such as massive student loan forgiveness. Questioning media information suppression and Hunter Biden’s sweetheart deal in the courts gives some hope.
Corruption, such as the money flow to the Biden family, is being exposed by House committees. How could millions go to the Biden family from overseas, and nobody notices? Does anybody in Washington care about corruption, or do they also have scams?
As bad as these anti-democratic trends are, reversing others is mandatory. Regulations make it impossible to do almost anything in the U.S. in a timely economic timeframe. Pouring our national treasure into windmills, solar panels, and EVs while you can’t mine, move, or connect the essentials needed realistically explodes the cost. It compounds our present inflation problem.
Greg Ip, who writes the “Capital Account column in the Wall Street Journal, ” explains why Fitch downgraded our bonds: “The U.S. is on track to spend 10% of federal revenue on interest by 2025 versus just 1% for the average triple-A rated country.” Social Security and Medicare will run out of money only a few years later. To maintain entitlements at anything like today will require vast sums.
Rolling back expenditures is mandatory, but progressives want more spending. We’ll need more wealthy people to tax to pay for all of it, but more likely, those we have will leave with their wealth and skills.
Overrun with migrants, cities claiming to be Sanctuaries are now crying, uncle. We must meet and reverse our border problems before rending society’s fabric.
Without control of our domestic problems, it’s unlikely resources will be available for us to be effective on the world stage, even if we had the will and skill. So far, there is no evidence of any of this.
All this is what’s at stake in ’24. A ticket led by an unstable, aging narcissist, heartily disliked by over half the population, could easily result in an across-the-board rout. What few barriers holding back the imperial state will vanish. The demise of the Senate filibuster will result in a Supreme Court packed with far-left judges. Without control of the House, Senate, or the executive, there’ll be no one to even probe what the Government is doing.
In just a few years, we’ll find we have to fall in line with the progressive agenda or else. Want a job? Show fealty by submitting a DEI loyalty form—probably a two-pager like Arizona universities require for employment. The Goldwater Institute ended the practice by threatening a lawsuit. With a newly minted packed Supreme Court, where will you go when your prospective employer demands allegiance to progressive ideas? Want a government contract, sign away your principles.
Don’t think this isn’t already happening; think again. Several scientists went along with the National Institute of Health (NIH) leading Doctors Fauci and Collins. They signed a paper printed in the Scientific Journal Nature claiming Covid came about Health naturally from a wet market, even though they had previously said it more likely originated in the Wuhan Lab. The NIH gives out a whopping 45.2 billion dollars in research grants. Ethics go out the window when this kind of government money is involved. That Nature published its work without questions shows its lack of principle. Of course, the Government used the article to pressure media platforms to suppress the Lab Leak Theory.
Soon you’ll echo 1984’s Winston Smith and love “Big Brother.”
